Shopping

Göteborg is a lively city for shopping where you can find just about anything within an easy walk of the centre. There’s no shortage of interesting shops right in the heart of the city, and if you feel like exploring – or taking a short tram ride – then Järntorget, Linnéstaden, Haga old town, Vasastaden and the main boulevard, Avenyn, all offer great shopping too.
The city offers an agreeable mix of modern department stores, shopping centres and side streets. Big brand names jostle for space with small specialist shops. Trendy, traditional, cool, essential, exclusive or inexpensive – you’ll find them all here.
City center
The area inside the Moat (Vallgraven) offers a great variety of shops. Small specialist shops rub shoulders with big chain stores all around Kungsgatan, Vallgatan, Fredsgatan and Magasinsgatan
Nordstan
Sweden’s leading shopping centre has 150 specialist shops and department stores under one roof. Exhibitions, fashion shows and various other events are often held here.
Haga old town
Car free cobbled streets and houses built in the a.k.a Landshövdingehus style create an intimate atmosphere in the oldest district of Göteborg. A colourful mix of cafés, specialist shops, fashion boutiques and second-hand shops line the streets.
Linnéstaden
The area surrounding the broad Linnégatan and intersecting streets is a part of the city where bohemian meets trendy. You’ll find a great selection of antique shops, interior design stores and second-hand shops, as well as bars, pubs and local restaurants serving food from different corners of the world.
Avenyn
The main boulevard – Avenyn (Kungsportsavenyn) is the place to see and be seen, to take in a show, do some shopping or watch the world go by from a pavement café. The area around Avenyn and Vasastan is dotted with exclusive fashion shops and art galleries.
