STOCKHOLM

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and is situated on the east coast. It is also the biggest city. The population is approximately 800 000 people in the city and 1 950 000 in the county, Stockholm city included. (2007)

Sweden is a monarchy and king Carl XVI Gustav and queen Silvia resides at Stockholm Castle. The castle offers guided tours, however we can not guarantee the you’ll meet the king and queen…

Stockholm is sought after city for many types of events, conferences, concerts, cultural events and so on. It is also an important stop for several international cruise lines, sailing the Baltic Sea. The Nobel price is awarded here at a yearly ceremony at the Concert House.

MALMÖ

Malmö is Sweden’s third biggest city after Stockholm and Göteborg and is situated in the very south. The population is 280 000 people. (2007)

Malmö is strategically placed close to Copenhagen and Sweden and Denmark are connected by the bridge crossing Öresund. One can almost call Malmö The Gateway to Europe.

The famous soccer player Zlatan Ibrahimovich, now playing for Spanish team Barcelona FC, hails from Malmö.

UMEÅ

Umeå is an important city in the north of Sweden. The population is 12 000 people. Its location is at the coast the Gulf of Bothnia.

Sweden has enormous forrest areas in the northern inland. Umeå, along with a couple of cites south by the coast, have had very big importance in shipping timber from their harbours.

The soccer team Umeå FC is one of the leading clubs in Europe in women’s club football.

KIRUNA

Sweden is a very long country and way up north lies Kiruna. Population 23 000. (2008) Its situated  250 kilometres north of the polar circle… No, Polar Bears do NOT roam the streets despite the rumours.

Kiruna is a mining city and the main product is iron.

The Midnight sun and the Northern lights are spectacular.

One of the most prolific swedish athletes was born in Kiruna, Börje Salming. He was the first really big swedish star in the NHL, playing for Toronto Maple Leafs.
