2009-03-12 TV documentary boosts will to donate organs

Swedish national televison, channel 1, has made a documentary on the Transplant department at Sahlgrenska University hospital in Göteborg, Sweden. The series is in 8 episodes and was recorded during fall 2008.

The first episode was aired on the 26 of february and on the same day the registrations to the national donors register went up five times the normal number of registrations. The will to make an active choice remains high and since the first airing, the number of people who makes an active choice has doubled per day, compared to before the series.

- It is very satsifying that this documentary has made the Swedish people aware and takeing an active interest in the hard and difficult matter of donating their organs. There is a vast lack of organs and tissue for donation purposes in Sweden and we now hope that this documentary will make the Swedes even more intrested in making an active choice for organ and tissue donation, says Åsa Welin enthusiastically.

The TV series "På Liv och Död" ("A matter of life and death") is aired on thursdays at 9:30 pm until april 16.
