2009-08-22 Going for gold at The Gold Coast

Today is kick off for the 17th World Transplant Games at the Gold Coast in Australia.

The Swedish team has now settled in at the Gold Coast. The competitors are excited to be in Australia, some for the first time on the continent. It’s a mixed team with experienced WTG veterans as well as new faces.

It is a mixed team where the youngest member is 17 years old and the oldest is 70 plus. All kinds of transplants are also represented. For these games a multitransplantee, Eva Ljungren has joined the team. This is the first time a multitransplantee is a member of the Swedish team. Mrs. Ljungren is competing I golf

- I have great team and traditionally we have brought home a lot of medals and I would be surpised if most of the Swedish competitors will hava some extra weight in the baggage when the team heads back for home, chuckles Team Manager Claes Wirén
